Armenian government has recently approved the Tourism Development Program for 2008-1012.
The program was developed in frames of the Armenian Tourism Development Concept. According to the Program, paramount attention is paid to the legislative base of the tourism in Armenia, as well as to the development of structures of the industry and their constructive reformation. In detail, the program includes the need to create a tourism image and brand of Armenia as well as the improvement of the transportation system of the country. No doubt, that participation of the private sector and intersector cooperation, stipulated by the governmental Program, has a vital importance for its effective implementation.
The Armenian government has approved a bill that will bring changes into the “State duty” law. New tarifs for visiting Armenia will be differentiated according to the stay period. For staying in Armenia 120 days tourists will pay 15,000 drams (about $50), for 21 days the duty will be 3,000 dram (about $9).
New duties will also be introduced into the process of qualification of hotels.
