The 41st international film festival for films and video programmes devoted to tourism was held traditionally in Karlový Vary, Czech Republic in October 2008.
The TourFilm festival includes not only films and video produced by national boards, regions and cities, but also commercial films devoted to tourism and television travelogues, as well as multimedia (www + CD), which showcases the world’s best in the category.
Tourfilm is the oldest film festival in the world devoted to films on tourism. This year 775 films and 438 multimedia programmes from over 137 countries were presented at the festival. That’s half of all countries in the world! Unfortunately Armenia found itself in the second half, among the countries that did not take part in this grand festival. But why? The problem seems to be not in film availability. “We have many beautiful films about Armenia,” said Mr. Arutyunyan, the president of “Azd Production”, the company that makes documentaries about Armenia. “Apart from films, produced by “Azd” there are about 10-15 very good films about Armenia, that could increase international awareness and interest in our country,” said he with regret. Seems like there was a “misunderstanding” between Armenian Ministry of Culture, who claim they announced about the coming festival, and film producers, who heard nothing about the event.
